Monday Recommendation: Felix Faust

This week’s book recommendation is:

Felix Faust by Dexter Morgenstern (available for kindle and in paperback)

A little while ago I had the opportunity to read this book and I was rather surprised with how much I ended up liking it.

For me I typically like books in other worlds – not on Earth – and if they’re going to take place on Earth they need to definitely not be modern day (or in the future). Well, this book went against both those things and I didn’t care – I liked it too much for that to be an issue.

The story was unique, interesting, and just plain enjoyable. It was very difficult to stop reading. I really liked the characters and the way they were developed – you could really relate them and understand what they were going through.

The book is about Felix Faust. It starts out with him going to college for the first time. The thing is, he is a psychic, but no one but his little sister knows about his abilities. He can read minds and levitate objects etc. In college he doesn’t really get along with his roommate, he has to try to not bring attention to himself with his teachers, and then he meets Randy – my favorite character – another psychic.

Randy decides to mentor Felix, and he gets introduced to the world of other psychics that he never knew existed. Their powers far exceed what he thought he was capable of and he has to start training and learning everything that he can – so he can stay alive. There’s basically a war going on between the good side and the bad – who will stop at nothing to achieve their goals.

Tragedies befall, danger and adventures are around every turn, who is trustworthy and who isn’t. There is always something going on and so many things and characters to keep your interest and make you guess as to what is going to happen next.

The book is  a great start to The Arcane Insurrection series and I will definitely be reading the next books when they are available!
There was quite a bit that I still wanted to know about and it pretty  much forces you to read the next one so you can find out more about other characters who were introduced later in the story as well as different types of powers. (That’s a good thing 😉 )

If any of this piques your curiosity then I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!
