Monday Book Recommendation: The Slender Man

Yes, I am finally doing a book recommendation again!

This week it is The Slender Man by Dexter Morgenstern

cover

I was invited to beta read this book awhile back, even though it’s not a genre of book that I normally read I thought I would go ahead since I’ve read a previous book by the author and really enjoyed it.

It was an extremely interesting book and if you like YA supernatural thrillers I think this would be your cup of tea.

The story is told from the point of view of Alyssa Redwood. Strange things start happening in the tiny town she lives in after a tragic bus accident, that claims the lives of several children, takes place. Children start hallucinating; seeing their dead siblings. Some come down with weird illnesses and others begin to disappear without a trace.
Alyssa started seeing a strange shadow/static figure since the day of the accident. She can’t explain the weird phenomenon, but as more and more children disappear or come down with the illness, she starts to think it has something to do with all the strange things that are happening.
Alyssa really gets involved and starts desperately seeking out answers when her best friend, Shana is the next person to disappear. But are the missing children even alive? Or is the Slender Man an entity that one can even fight?

Now the beginning might be a little slow to some people. I found it gave more background info and better understanding of the characters. But there’s several twists in the story that will keep you guessing and once I had gotten over half way in I found it nearly impossible to stop reading till I had finished it. It might not terrify you as you’re reading it, but once you’re done and are able to think over the story, you just might find yourself searching the dark for the Slender Man.
